Nalgonda: Mahatma Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor Khaza Altaf Hussain stated that trees play an important role in balancing the ecosystem.

On Friday, he launched Haritha Haram programme of NSS-unit 1 of Arts College students of the university on varsity premises.

Speaking on the occasion, he emphasised on the need to increase forest cover to control increasing temperatures, for rains at right time and to control the pollution. He advised the students to plant a sapling on the occasion of their birthdays, wedding anniversaries of their loved ones besides protecting them till they are on their own.

On the day, the NSS Unit 1 volunteers planted as many as 200 saplings on varsity premises. University Registrar M Yadagiri, NSS programme officer Madhu, Dr Alwala Ravi and students of Arts College participated in the programme.
