Mahbubnagar: District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) along with Indira Kranthi Patahm has decided to launch a new scheme of organic horticulture farming in villages. As part of this,DRDA and IKP have selected all the mandals in Narayanpet region and a few mandals in Mahbubnagar to launch the scheme, for which they have decided to rope in interested and progressive Self-Help Group women
organisations from villages to provide training and funding for taking up Nutri-Garden organic farming.
According to IKP State Project Manager Saroja, the main objective of promoting Nutri-garden organic horticulture farming in villages is to ensure that women and children living in rural areas will get nutritious and non-
toxic vegetables and other agriculture products.
Under Nutri-Garden programme, SHG women will be given training on how to take up horticulture farming to cultivate various vegetable and fruit crops in villages. Under this programme, women will also
be trained on how to prepare organic manure and they will be provided financial aid for the purpose.
Saroja said that financial aid ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh per each SHG will be provided. The officials have already prepared a comprehensive proposal with an outlay of Rs 1.08 crore, under which each woman can avail a financial aid up to Rs 1 lakh. Already SERP (Society for Eradication of Rural Poverty) has released Rs 19 lakh to various mandals in Mahbubnagar, she added.
SHGs of various villages in Midjil, Balanagar and Devarkadra mandals have already received funds from SERP. Rs 10 lakh for Midjil mandal; Rs 7 lakh for Balanagar mandal; and Rs 2 lakh was released for Devarkadra mandal in Mahbubnagar district.
