Mahbubnagar: The SC, ST Commission is conducting 'Jan Adalat' to sensitie the poor Scheduled Caste (SC) and Schedule Tribe (ST) people in the district and brining awareness on their rights and new Acts and Laws for their protection.

During his visit to the district on Wednesday, SC, ST Commission Chairman Yerrolla Srinivas said that the commission is conducting regular 'Jan Adalats' programmes to bring awareness among the poor and illiterate SCs and STs and motivate them on various rights they have and at the same time informing them about the protective laws incorporated in the Indian constitution to fight for their rights.

Later speaking at a meeting at revenue meeting hall at the district collectorate, the Chairman said that soon after the formation of Telangana State, the government had set up SC, ST Commission with an aim to strengthen SC and ST communities by providing justice against caste-based atrocities, un-touchabilitiy, or any kind of discrimination in society.

The State government has empowered the SC, ST Commission with additional powers, which now has all the powers similar to that of a civil court. Earlier, the victims used to come to Hyderabad for lodging their complaints, but now the Commission itself is coming to the people to listen to their problems, he said.

The Chairman said that any SC or ST is suppressed in the name of caste or is being discriminated socially in any form then it will take stern action against such perpetrators. The commission will conduct Jan Adalat in Mahbubnagar district on December 9 and 10.

The commission is also planning to conduct Jan Adalat in Medak district from December 16 to 17. Out of the 10,500 pending cases, the SC, ST Commission has resolved 8,200 cases till September 30, 2020 and had provided Rs 56.64 crore as compensation to the victims.

SC ST Commission Members B Vidyasagar, M BalRam Nayak, K Neladevi, Chilkamarri Narasimha, Pandu Das, SC ST Commission Secretary, Additional Collector Seetharam, DRO Swarnalatha, DRDO J Srinivas, Mahabubnagar Urban Tahasildar Pardhasaradhi and others participated in the programme.
