Jharasangham: Excessive use of natural recourses is leading to ecological imbalance. It is learnt that illegal red soil excavation is going on brazenly during nights on the outskirts of villages of Kohir mandal. The villages include Chintalagutta, Chilukapalli, Edakulapalli and Kuppasagar. Villagers allegedly blame officials and leaders hand in glove with the excavators. The soil is being transported to private ventures.

It seems the implementation of the Water, Land and Tree Act (WALTA), which is aimed at promoting water conservation and regulating exploitation and use of ground and surface water, remains only on papers. The villagers urged officials concerned to take stringent action against those moving the soil.

Golla Shankar, an environment activist, expressed ire over this issue and criticised officials concerned for not looking into the matter. He demanded steps to stop excavation immediately.
