Monsoon sets in, but still no respite from humidity
Cities like Vishakhapatnam, Chennai and Mumbai have humidity throughout year, but the rise in humidity in Hyderabad is rare
Hyderabad: In spite of the monsoon setting in, humidity is still a cause of worry. "We feel it is an extended summer.
I have been living in the city for close to two decades, but never have I experienced such humidity levels," says Arvind Malhotra, a businessman.
Y K Reddy, Director at Indian Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, said, "Normally humidity will be 50% more in rainy season, the air from Arabian Sea causes humidity."
The temperatures are hovering with maximum temperatures between 31 and 34 degree Celsius and the minimum temperatures between 25 and 26 degree Celsius, but the humidity is around 72 to 76%, and the humidity still exists.
On June 23, the maximum temperature was 32.2 degree Celsius, minimum temperature was 25 degree Celsius and the humidity was 74% at 8.30am, and the humidity reached to 76% at 5.30pm on the same day.
The cities like Vishakhapatnam, Chennai and Mumbai have humidity throughout the year, but the increase in humidity in Hyderabad is uncommon, as the sea is 300 km away from the city.
Residents Rama Devi and Sujata N of Pragati Nagar and KPHB respectively, said, "Now that the summer has gone, we thought weather would be cool, but the same humidity continues with the rain. Even today, we switch on our AC."
