Big jolt for scores of NCC cadets aspiring for higher studies if the quota is scrapped

Hyderabad: The parents association of NCC cadets has requested governments in both Telugu States as well as NCC Directorate to continue with the existing practice of reservation for NCC cadets for admission into UG professional courses including MBBS, BDS, B Sc (Agriculture), BVSc (Bachelor of Veterinary Science) as well as B.Tech.

They expressed their anguish over reports indicating that NCC Directorate in Hyderabad, which oversees activities and its functioning in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States, has decided to recommend to both governments to do away with the reservation for NCC cadets interested to pursue professional studies.

According to M Amarnath from the parents association, removing the reservation quota would be a big jolt to scores of dedicated NCC cadets from both States.

At a time when pressure is being mounted on other States in the country to create a quota for NCC cadets as in both Telugu states, any move to do away with the quota was not in the interest of students and their parents, he felt. Both States are provide one per cent reservation to NCC cadets for various courses.

Amarnath and other members of the parents association expressed their concern to media at a press briefing here in the city on Monday.

" Some sports associations like Rifle Shooting, Sailing are eyeing NCC certificates stating that these disciplines exist in training for NCC cadets. This idea is not fair.

Even the court has rejected their request. It is true that these issues created a controversy in the recent past. The solution is not to scrap the entire NCC quota on the whole.

The need of the hour is the stricter implementation of the quota by tightening the whole process giving no scope for irregularities by other associations," felt the aggrieved parents.

Also, the parents requested both governments to make the implementation process simpler with a common G.O for admission into all courses instead of different rules for say medicine study and engineering study.

A Indrasena Reddy, M Subhasini, B Venkateshwarlu and P Ratnam from the parents association were also present.
