Music classes should be made compulsory in schools: Governor Narasimhan
Speaking at the meeting of the members of Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) held at Raj Bhavan on Thursday, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan
Hyderabad: Speaking at the meeting of the members of Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) held at Raj Bhavan on Thursday, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Chairman of the Advisory Board, said that music classes should be made compulsory in all schools, as it used to be in the old days.
The Governor appreciated efforts of the members of SPIC MACAY in organising variety of cultural programmes highlighting the country's rich cultural heritage in colleges and schools and said that these efforts will go a long way in conserving and promoting awareness of the country's rich cultural heritage in music and art forms, particularly among the student community. He said special focus should made to target students in classes 4th to 12th in residential schools of all categories both in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to organise orientation programmes and carry the message across all students in collaboration with locally established cultural centres. He also said that SPIC MACAY should first cover all residential schools and then scale it up to Universities in both the states.
Dr. Kiran Seth, Founder of SPIC MACAY explained about the activities and programmes of the society, which is a volunteer driven and non-profit organisation spreading awareness about the Indian classical music and culture amongst the youth of the country for the past 40 years. He said during the previous year, the organisation has organised 70 Workshop demonstrations in Wanaparthy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts. He said that the First Telangana State Convention was organised at the Rajiv Gandhi University for Knowledge Technologies at Basara of Nirmal district and cultural programmes at 25 Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools.
Dr. Kiran Seth also explained about the programmes proposed to be taken up during the next academic year of 2019-20. On this occasion the Governor released the organisation's report for the year 2018-19.
