Mahabubabad: A widow, who failed to obtain death certificate of her husband, staged a sit-in protest along with her two daughters at Kesamudram mandal headquarters on Thursday.

The contention of Bayya Lingamma of Thallapusapally village was that despite her best efforts she failed to get the death certificate of her husband Narsaiah who died on September 12. She alleged that the Mandal Panchayat Officer (MPO) Md Imam Pasha had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from her to issue the death certificate. After a bargain, the official agreed to issue the certificate for Rs 6,000. Later, Lingamma paid Rs 6,000 to the MPO on September 22, she claimed.

Following which, the MPO had issued a handwritten certificate on form 6. When the authorities rejected the certificate stating that it was not valid to apply for the Rythu Bima and the Rythu Bandhu, Lingamma had again to the MPO to issue the certificate on form 10. She said that she and her family members had met the official several times for the certificate but in vain. Vexed with this, she along with her two daughters - Shobha and Latha - staged a protest outside his chamber.

It's learnt that the village Sarpanch reportedly told the MPO not to issue the death certificate to Lingamma as she had a dispute with her son over money matters. Against this backdrop, Pasha had not issued the certificate, it's learnt. However, following the protest, MPO issued the certificate to Lingamma.
