Nalgonda: Doctors boycott duties, protest against attacks on medicos

The doctors from Nalgonda and also from Indian Medical Association, Neelagiri branch boycotted their duties and staged a protest on Monday criticising the physical attacks on a medico in West Bengal recently and also attacks on doctors in Telangana and all over the country.

Nalgonda: The doctors from Nalgonda and also from Indian Medical Association, Neelagiri branch boycotted their duties and staged a protest on Monday criticising the physical attacks on a medico in West Bengal recently and also attacks on doctors in Telangana and all over the country.

The doctors staged a protest at Clock Tower centre in Nalgonda town, where they were joined by the doctors from district government hospital. As a result of protest, the services at outpatient wards of hospital were stalled. However, emergency services continued.

Addressing the protestors, Dr Jayaprakash Reddy said none questions or attacks any government office when farmers commit suicides due to official apathy, but doctors would be manhandled when a death occurs in a private or a government hospital.

Members of Bar Association, Red Cross Society, Lions Club, Lions Club Sneha and Shakthi participated in the doctors protest and expressed their solidarity. Paramedical staff, staff of all hospitals, members of Medical Representatives Association too extended their support to the protesting doctors.

On the occasion, IMA Neealgiri appealed to the Central government to bring out an Act against physical attacks on doctors, and also requested the State government to implement the GO issued by previous united AP government against attacks in doctors both private and government hospitals.

IMA president Dr Pulla Rao, vice-presidents Ramesh and Venu, Secretary Murthy and executive body members Dr Subba Rao, Dr Rajeswari, Dr Sucharitha of Gynecologists Association, Dr JP Reddy State council member, Dr Mathru, president of Government Doctors Association, Red Cross Society chairman Amarender Reddy, former Bar Council president Venkateshwarlu, Lions Club member Satish Kumar, Dr Uday Singh, Pharmacy council member Paramathma and others participated in the programme.
