Nizamabad: Supporting the call of 'national protest day' against the Electricity Amendment Bill 2020, NPDCL employees and engineers staged a dharna here on Monday.

NPDCL SE Sudarshanam said this Amendment Bill will incur loss to the farmers across the country and opposed the proposed privatisation of power sector. Selling power companies to corporate companies will severely damage farmers and small-scale industries, he added. This Bill will affect badly subsidies provided by the State to poor people and industries.

On behalf of union and associations, Thota Rajasekhar said the State-owned power distribution companies for the past 70 years have been providing electricity for a marginal rate to 25 crore consumers, agriculturists and industries in the country. And now the Modi government is attempting to privatise power sector, which is against the public interest, he added.
