Hyderabad: Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy found fault with the political parties for being irresponsible for the sorry state of the education sector in the country.

The Minister inaugurated a National Workshop on "Accreditation, Quality Improvement and Ranking in Higher Education – Road Map Ahead," jointly organised by TSCHE, CCE & RUSA here on Monday.

While addressing the gathering, he said there is not a single university from the country figured among the top 100 universities in the world.

He reasoned that this was the result of the universities lagging behind in research. For this, political parties are also partly responsible, he added.

He asked parents to stop pressurising children to achieve what they wanted them to be. Instead, he stressed to inspire students to ask questions.

For this, the Minister said focus should be made to transform the primary schools into centres to produce scientists. He expressed anguish for continuing British style of the education system in the country.

The Minister found fault with the polarisation of the education system in which parents are giving only two options for their children, either to become a doctor or an engineer. This, in turn, has let down the research capabilities in the country.

Member of the NITI Ayog, Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat in his address said efforts are being made to introduce education relevant to the changes in the country and explained at length the educational reforms proposed to be introduced in near future.

Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), Chairman Prof T Papi Reddy, State Education Secretary B Janardhan Reddy, Technical Education Commissioner Naveen Mittal were among those participated.
