Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has stated that retirement age of teaching faculty in medical colleges was increased in the interests of state. Earlier it was 58 years, now it has been revised to 65 years. KCR said this decision would help in overcoming staff cruch issues in medical colleges and also ensure the academic interests of students is protected.

Many states in the country took this decision, CM stressed, emphasizing that age hike decision would not hamper the promotion of young doctors as it would be taken up regularly. Earlier, he introduced Telangana Public Employment (Regulation of Age of Superannuation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019.

MIM, Congress and BJP also supported the age hike decision of the government, but they requested promotions of eligible faculty should not be hampered with age hike of senior professors. Afterwards, the bill was passed.
