Hyderabad: With local Covid-19 transmission being seen in two districts and spike in the number of positive cases, the Telangana government has decided to take up door-to-door survey across the State from Tuesday.

This task would be taken up with PHC as a unit in all districts. Health department staff, Asha workers and ANMs under each PHC will visit each house and enquire about the health condition of the family members concerned.

According to Health Minister Eatala Rajender, the health staff will check for symptoms like fever, cough or cold and note it down on a form that will be handed over to PHC doctor and medical staff.

"If five or 10 among 1,000 members have these symptoms, then the PHC doctor will get in touch with them and assess their health condition.

In case of any suspicion, the matter would be immediately informed to higher authorities, who would monitor the particular case directly," he said.

This house-to-house survey will go on for 10 days from March 24 onwards. Already this exercise has been taken up in the areas within a radius of one kilometre of the houses in Secunderabad and Karimnagar where local transmission was reported, he added.

Speaking further, the Minister was highly critical of some foreign returnees, who, according to him, moved out freely mingling with people, attending "Daawath" (parties).

"These actions are highly objectionable. All foreign returnees were told to be in strict home isolation for 14 days. However, it has come to our notice that some of them are ignoring the instructions after giving self-declaration form to follow government orders.

Action, under law, would be taken by the police if they don't mend their ways," Eatala warned.

The Health Minister pointed out that 6,000 teams across the State are on the job to speak to each foreign returnee daily and check their health condition and do the needful.

The government and health department are going extra mile for the safety of its citizens and it is the duty of citizens to act responsibly, he stressed.
