Hyderabad: The road safety meeting was held at Cyberabad Commissionerate on Saturday by Cyberabad Traffic Police involving the officials from various other stake holding departments like Transport, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Roads and Buildings department (R&B), Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited (TSIIC), Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) etc.

During the meeting, the current safety scenario on the roads in the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits was presented to all the departments and the identified road accidents hot spots were brought to the knowledge of the officials.

While discussing the causes for accidents at various accident hot spots, it was decided to conduct joint inspections of them and take engineering measures to prevent further accidents at the same spots.

Safety audit of roads inside financial district, need for Foot-over-Bridges between Alwyn junction and BHEL junction, maintenance of raids along Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) project sites, illumination issues, accidents due to discontinuity of ORR service roads at Kandlakoya near Medchal and Thondapalli near Shamshabad, were some of the major issues that came up for discussion.

The detailed joint inspection of the Srisailam highway would be undertaken by the police and NHAI engineers in the coming week to address the safety issues.

Also, HMRL, NHAI and SRDP will hold a joint meeting to finalise the plan for improving the BHEL junction in long term. In the meanwhile, NHAI and police will work together to take some measures immediately to reduce accidents at the BHEL junction.

Cyberabad Commissioner stressed on the need for coordinated efforts by all the stake holding departments to reduce fatalities and injuries on roads in Cyberabad.

It was decided to conduct such meetings regularly from now on for better results in road safety.
