RTC to foray into bulk cargo transport biz

Hyderabad: Conductors will now become marketing executives and computer operators in the TSRTC as the Corporation has taken steps to set up bulk cargo transport.
According to the officials, services of over 1,200 workers including drivers and conductors will be utilised in the logistic business to be started by the TSRTC soon.
The RTC management issued orders to select manpower for the purpose of undertaking the bulk cargo transportation business.
The management proposes to set up this business as a separate wing and enter into different and profitable business segments related to cargo transportation.
With this, the conductors would now be working as marketing executives and computer operators while drivers would be doing their job as usual.
According to the officials, a total of 1,209 employees would be selected. The staff pattern would be like four senior scale officers at head office in Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Hyderabad-1 and Greater Hyderabad zones.
Similarly, eleven junior scale officers will be selected from 11 regions, 123 marketing executives and 11 operators in regions, 97 in depots and 15 computer operators with minimum degree qualification.
There will be two supervisors at head office, who would be dealing with supervisors, accounts and taxation and the services of 1,069 drivers will be used in the cargo services.
The management would provide training to the selected conductors as regional marketing executives and depot marketing executives.
The conductors with a qualification of postgraduate with MBA marketing or graduates with marketing skills below 40 years are required as regional marketing executives and graduates below 45 years having marketing skills and computer knowledge are required to work as depot marketing executives and computer operators.
The official said that willingness of the enthusiastic drivers below 40 years, who have a qualification of SSC pass would also be taken for Good Transport Vehicles (GTVs).
The regional managers (RMs) have been asked to inform the depot managers for identifying drivers, who are qualified and good academic record.
The RMs have been asked to send the list of identified by December 18 and interview at the head office on December 20.
However, the union leaders said that this was a hasty decision without seeing whether the new business was feasible or not.
