`Hyderabad: Telangana State School Education Department (TSSED) is all set to launch an online portal for Medical Reimbursement Online System (MRIS) for the benefit of about 1.5 lakh teachers working in various government-run schools.

According to the TSSED officials, the MRIS was launched on Monday. Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official said claimants of the medical reimbursement in the department had to face several hardships to get their applications disposed of in time.

Until now, teachers and pensioners of the department had to apply physically at the District Education Officers (DEOs) concerned. In turn, it has to pass through the administrative hierarchy like Regional Joint Director of School Education (RJDSE) and then finally reaches the office of the State Commissioner of School Education (SCSE) for final approval.

This made the applicants approach DEO and RJDSE offices several times to follow up their cases and to ensure that their applications are reached to the SCSE for approval.

"Sometimes, it was taking months. On other occasions, their applications were returned calling for additional documents." That apart, whenever the corporate hospitals refuse to accept the health cards, the teachers and retired employees of the department

are entirely dependent on the early release of medical reimbursement bills from the government.

It was against this backdrop that the department has decided to online the entire process quick and accurate disposal of the medical reimbursement proposals.

SCSE T Vijayakumar said that the online system will benefit about 1.15 lakh teachers, besides other staff members working in the SSED. "Initially, it will be made available to the teachers and staff currently working in the department. Then, it will be soon stepped up to facilitate the claimants of all the retired employees of about two lakh," he added.

Following the launch of the new MIRS, the drawing offers in the districts have to upload the proposals in the website from September 23 for all the claims submitted by the employees along with a hard copy to be submitted to the concerned competent authority and make payments after scrutiny as per the rules.
