Karimnagar: Central Nodal Officer Satinder Pal Singh, IPS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, gave a call to the students to participate in a campaign on water conservation in Karimnagar district.He participated at a programme at Velichal and Vedira villages in Ramadugu mandal on Wednesday.

The Chief Nodal Officer told the students to take up the water conservation awareness campaign in every corner of the village and to encourage the villagers to take up reuse and recharge structures in every house. He further said conservation encompasses the policies, strategies and activities to manage fresh water as a sustainable resource to protect the water environment and to meet current and future demands.

Later the Central team interacted with the villagers and farmers and inspected the NRM works such as soak pits, farm pond, plantation taken up under MGNREGS.

At Velichal (V) of Ramadugu mandal, Central Nodal Officer Satinder Pal Singh stated that every citizen has the responsibility to use water judicially and not to waste. One should ensure that every drop of rainwater sink into the ground to increase ground water levels.

Speaking with the farmers, he said every farmer has to dig pond in their fields and one soak pit in their house so as to increase ground water levels. He also requested them to plant more trees to protect the environment.

On Wednesday afternoon, they visited Rangampeta and Vedurugutta villages in Choppadandi mandal. In Vedurugutta village, they inspected percolation tank and plantation sites and later interacted with farmers, villagers and students. He expressed satisfaction on the steps taken up for the improvement of ground water levels and said it is everybody's prime responsibility to save water.

District Officers A Venkateshwar Rao, DRDO N Hari Kumar, DGNO Srinivisa Rao Gupta, DIO A Manula Devi, APD, MPDO, Sarpanch, SHGs, NGOs and others participated in the programme.
