Hyderabad: Asking the devotees to celebrate Bonalu festival in their houses this year, Telangana government on Wednesday said that the festival will be a simple affair this year in wake of increasing corona cases.

Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav and other city ministers had a meeting with temple committees in the city on Wednesday. Srinivas Yadav said that the festival would be organised in a simple manner this year. The minister urged devotees to celebrate festival in their houses and advised them not to visit temples.

The month long Ashada Masam Bonalu festival begins from June 25 onwards. Potharajus dances and colourful processions are attraction during Bonalu. Government celebrates this as a state festival.

The minister said that government has been organising the festival on a grand scale every year but this year the government wants to make it a simple affair because of covid-19 situation.

The temple priests will offer Bonam to Ammavaru in the temple itself. The ghatam procession will also be restricted inside the temple, said Srinivas Yadav adding government would supply Pattu Vastralu to the temples a day before the festival.
