Hyderabad: With healthcare staff including doctors at the receiving end of police high-handedness on the first day of the lock down, the health department has decided to issue special passes to all of them working in various hospitals and PHCs across the state.
A lady doctor was abused by on duty police at a check point in Khammam district and a few nurses faced the same experience in Suryapet. Few junior doctors were also stopped by police and were not allowed to go to hospitals for duty despite showing ID cards as healthcare were exempted by the government under essential services.
Doctors and the medical staff rued that they are being made to suffer despite coming forward to serve the needy attending Covid-19 duties even not caring for their lives.
In wake of these incidents, the medical JAC met DME and also Director, Health to come to their rescue.
Accordingly, instructions were issued to DMHOs in all districts and superintendents of all teaching hospitals to issue special passes on war footing basis to healthcare staff including doctors. Also, the issue was brought to the notice of DGP also.
