Hyderabad: Melakarta Ragas maestro and noted Telugu music director Vogeti Naga Venkata Ramana Murthy, popularly known as Swara Veenapani, set a new Guinness World Record for longest marathon church organ playing by rendering the 72 Melakarta ragas continuously on his musical instrument for 61 hours and 20 minutes at an event in London recently.

Vogeti started the marathon church organ playing sharp at 5 am on September 30. Vogeti demonstrated the symptoms of some physical queasiness once after 20 hours of performance and again after 40 hours of the marathon but proved his grit gradually and played the Melakarta Ragas to the fullest contentment of the audience.

Indeed, his enthralling performance was a feast to the eyes and ears of the audiences. The previous world record was 60 hours, 1 minute and 25 seconds which was in the name of Norway's Nina Irslinger but Vogeti outperformed the musical organ for 61 hours and 20 minutes.
