Khammam: The erstwhile Khammam district was burning with anti-government slogans while many took to streets staging protests as TSRTC strike entered ninth day across the State.

After D Srinivas Reddy, who committed suicide by self-immolation was shifted to Hyderabad for better treatment, the JAC leaders called for a bandh across the erstwhile district. Tension prevailed in the district as protesting workers raised anti-government slogans.

Opposition party leaders and supporters, protesters came to RTC depots during early hours on Sunday and staged protest programmes. They did not allow any bus to leave the depot. The police tried to stop the protesters but the JAC leaders and RTC employees stopped their attempt to ply buses.

As per orders of Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy, the district police took all precautionary measures. Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal directed all divisional police to make tight security arrangements in all depots. The police arrested the JAC leaders who tried to create problems.

The CPM, CPI and Congress party leaders supported the RTC employees and participated in the dharna held across the district. In Kothagudem, the police disrupted the dharna being staged at a bus stand here.

The Police arrested the CPM, CPI leaders and JAC leaders. During the arrests, a woman conductor fell unconscious and was rushed for medical help. In district head quarter, the JAC leaders and RTC workers strongly conducted protest programmes at the RTC bus stands.
