Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders are worried over the outcome of MPTC and ZPTC elections against the backdrop of results of Lok Sabha polls which gave a jolt to the ruling party.

The elections to 535 ZPTCs and 5,817 MPTC were held in three phases in the State and the State Election Commission was to release the results on May 27 but it postponed the announcement of results in the last minute.

The new date has still not been decided. It expects the government to amend the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018 for finalising the date, sources said.

According to sources, the party leaders including the candidates are in dilemma on their fate. The voters have already selected their candidates and the fate of the candidates is locked in the ballot boxes.

However, the Lok Sabha elections have made the TRS leaders jittery.

The emergence of the BJP as a strong force in the Lok Sabha has led to this fear as the Saffron party has won four Lok Sabha seats from Telangana.

The leaders at the ground level feel that there would be some impact of the Lok Sabha election and there are chances that BJP candidates would get good number of votes.

Apart from the emergence of BJP, the TRS leaders are worried over the collusion of the BJP and Congress leaders to defeat the ruling party candidates.

The leaders do not rule out both the national parties supporting each other to defeat TRS.

The leaders pointed out that the Congress and BJP leaders colluded in constituencies like Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Adilabad resulting in the victory of BJP, which was surprising for many.

"We never thought that the Congress and the BJP leaders would join hands but this seems to be happening as it was noticed in the Lok Sabha results," said a senior TRS leader.

Giving example, the TRS leader said that Madhu Yashki of Congress secured just over 60,000 votes in 2019 whereas he got more than two lakh votes in 2014.

If both the parties follow the same strategy, the party candidates would have to lose and it would leave an impact on the ZP election in 32 districts, opined the TRS leader.
