Finally, the stage is set for the election of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) Mayor with the Election Commission (EC) releasing the schedule for it on Monday.
Warangal: Finally, the stage is set for the election of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) Mayor with the Election Commission (EC) releasing the schedule for it on Monday.
It may be mentioned here that the Mayor post has been up for grab ever since Nannapuneni Narender vacated it after he was elected as an MLA from the Warangal East constituency in December 2018.
The notification released by the EC has directed the district Collector or the Joint Collector of Warangal Urban district to issue a notice to all the members of the GWMC on or before April 23 regarding date and time of the special meeting for the election of mayor on April 27.
After Narender quit the post, the authorities appointed Deputy Mayor Khaja Sirajuddin as the incharge mayor.
Many corporators are vying for the post. Some of them are... Gunda Prakash Rao (26th Division), Vaddiraj Ganesh (27th Division), Boinapally Ranjith Rao (48th Division), Nagamalla Jhansi (56th Division), Gundu Aashritha Reddy (24th Division) and D Vijay Bhaskar (50th Division). This apart, the in-charge Mayor Khaja Sirajuddin is also the race for the post.
Meanwhile, the speculation is rife that TRS leadership is likely to consider a Corporator of the OC community for the post.
