Warangal: The nursery in the Warangal Central Prison is one of the biggest in Telangana, Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil said. The Collector, who inspected the nursery here on Thursday, said that no other prison in the country has such a big nursery the Warangal Central Prison has.

"The prison's nursery is raising 15 lakh saplings with Rs 70 lakh provided by the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA)," he said. He heaped praise on prison authorities for orderly maintenance of about 25 varieties of plants – shade giving, fruit bearing and horticultural.

He told the prison authorities to ensure 80 per cent survival rate of plants and to provide funds for constructing green house on a permanent basis in the prison. The nursery would provide additional income to the prisoners, Patil said. He directed the officials to depute two persons each for two lakh saplings so that monitoring would be better.

The Collector said that they have plans to forestry wing in the KUDA so that Haritha Haram programme would be taken up on a big note. Greater Warangal Municipal Commissioner N Ravi Kiran, prison superintendent M Murali Babu, prison official K S Suresh Babu and town planning officer E Ajith Reddy were among others present. Later, the Collector also inspected the nursery located in Bhattupally, a suburban village, which is raising 7 lakh saplings.
