Kollapur: Water from Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation project released
The waters are set to wet around 13,000 acres of farmlands in Kollapur and Kalwakurthy areas
Kollapur: Irrigation officials at Yellur in Kollapur mandal of Nagarkurnool released water into Yellur reservoir of Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Project by lifting water from the Srisailam backwaters on Friday.
The irrigation officials switched on three motors of KLI first lift at Yellur and lifted 1.29 cusecs of water and leased it into the Yellur reservoir. From there, the water would be pumped into Singotam reservoir through the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation main canal and fill up the reservoir. From there, using the KLI second lift, the water would be moved to Jonnala Bogada reservoir. Later, using the KLI third lift, the water would travel through the main gravity canal from Gudipally towards Kalwakurthy and supply water to the parched lands.
After a wait of more than two months, the farmers in Nagarkurnool district have expressed happiness that at last they got irrigation water released from KLI. With this, over 13,000 acres of farmlands in both Kollapur and Kalwakurthy would irrigation waters from the KLI project.
