Amaravati: Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney said that 439 check posts would be set up by the mines department to curb the smuggling of sand and monitor sand transportation. Addressing the officials of the mines department at the Secretariat here on Friday, the Chief Secretary instructed the officials to build the check posts on priority basis. "Each check post would have one police personnel and three employees of the department and the closed circuit cameras, electricity and toilet facilities should be provided there," she said.

Since the Chief Minister was particular to check sand smuggling, the department should take initiative to set up the check posts at an early date, she said.

Panchayat raj principal secretary Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said that the construction of 216 check posts was completed and the construction of 130 more would be completed soon. Panchayat raj commissioner Girijan Sankar, SPF director general N V Surendra Babu, additional DG (law and order) Ravisankar Ayyannar, secretary of mines department Ram Gopal and others were present.
