Tirupati: Concerned over increasing road accidents especially on the highways, the District Collector has proposed setting up of six trauma care centres at Srikalahasti, Nagari, Palamaner, Kuppam, Madanapalle and Piler towns.

By setting up the trauma care centres at these towns, the rate of fatality in road accidents can be reduced as it would help in providing immediate medical care to the victims.

Dedicated trauma centres will provide specialised medical services to patients who suffer traumatic injuries. It may be recalled that in Chittoor district about 500 people have lost their lives in 865 accidents and almost 1000 people were injured. During the first six months of this year and about 350 died in more than 600 road accidents.

Speaking to The Hans India, District Coordinator of Hospital Services Dr P Saralamma said that if trauma care centre is sanctioned to Srikalahasti the 100 bedded hospital will be upgraded as 150 beds. Similarly, the bed strength in other hospitals also will go up. Trauma care in government hospitals near national or state highways can bring down preventable deaths when road accidents take place.

Dr Saralamma also said that SADAREM (Software for Assessment of Disabled for Access, Rahabilitation and Empowerment) centres have been functioning at all constituency headquarters from December 2.

This will enable the disabled to go to that centre and obtain the required certificates instead of taking pain of traveling to faraway places. SADAREM is a web enabled system to assess persons with disabilities and issue them the required certificates.

Presently, these centres have been functioning at District Headquarters Hospital at Chittoor and area hospitals at Sri Kalahasti, Madanapalli, Chandragiri, Nagari, Kuppam and Palamaner. Every Tuesday and Friday disabled persons will be examined at these centres under SADAREM.
