Amaravati: 15,715 schools to be modernised

Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy set a target of modernising 15,715 schools as part of Naadu-Nedu programme. During a review with the education department officials at his camp office in Tadepalli on Tuesday, he told officials to complete the modernisation works of schools by the start of academic year in June, 2020. The Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare a detailed plan of action and the status of the works undertaken under the programme by the next meeting. He said that he would directly monitor the progress of the works regarding infrastructure in schools from the next meeting onwards.
He also ordered speeding up of digitisation in schools by installing required television sets and computers. It is proposed to give a smart TV to every school in the state to promote digital education.
As per the earlier decision, Jagan said instruction in English medium would commence from Class 1 to Class 6 from the next academic year. He asked the authorities to prepare students and teachers for that, stating that it would help the students in getting good employment opportunities after completing their education.
The Chief Minister said that quality should be maintained in the items being offered as part of Jagannanna Vidya Kanuka programme. The officials have displayed the uniforms, belts, bags, three pairs of uniforms, notebooks, textbooks, shoes and socks that would be given to the students.
When the Chief Minister asked about the implementation of Jagannanna Gorumudda (midday meal) programme and the maintenance of toilets in schools, the officials informed that they were regularly monitoring through the app launched for the programmes and that water tankers were arranged for the schools which do not have water facility.
Reacting to it, the Chief Minister said that no student should suffer from the water scarcity in the schools. He also directed the officials to address the water problem in the schools as part of Naadu Nedu programme. He said that instead of transporting water to the schools from somewhere else, there must be a regular and proper water supply facility. For that, if necessary, he directed construction of overhead water tanks at the schools itself.
Further, the Chief Minister informed officials to clear the dues pertaining to supply of items under Gorumudda programme. He said that the suppliers could not sustain if the government would not clear the dues, which would have an impact on the quality of food.
