Amaravati: Civic sense seems to be dawning on people of Andhra Pradesh with the government attempting to strictly enforce the law of clampdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19. There were messy and alarming scenes in the morning relaxation hours from 6 am to 9 am to allow people to buy the essential commodities on Tuesday.

This is one area in which people seem to be woefully lacking in their social responsibility which has left the State administration confused. The rush to buy vegetables seems to be unending and the scenes at the major markets of the district headquarters resemble wrestling matches with everyone pushing and elbowing others to lay hands on the veggies.

After watching similar unruly scenes on Monday, the police was told to harden their attitude further on Tuesday and from 9 am onwards most districts saw stricter enforcement of the law with people barricading several roads and stopping and questioning those still out on the reasons thereof.

Reports from Guntur suggest that sometimes police had to resort to caning of the 'covidiots' violating the law and roaming around the streets without any emergency. Chittoor Police have, in the meanwhile, become saviours for the beggars by providing them with food. As of now they are offering free meals to them wherever they are found.

Reports from Ongole suggest that the efforts of the district administration to establish quarantine centres at some places was being opposed by the locals fearing an outbreak of corona in the vicinity. This is a new challenge to the administration and one needs to look at it.
