Amaravati: Lokesh flays 'repression' of Dalit farmers

Amaravati: TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh on Friday condemned the 'high-handed behaviour and arm-twisting tactics' of the YSRCP government to suppress the Amaravati farmers' agitation against the arbitrary 3 capitals plan.

Lokesh termed it as highly condemnable that the SC, ST atrocities cases were filed against the Dalit farmers themselves in Krishnayapalem in Amaravati. On its part, the TDP would extend all kinds of support to the farmers from weaker sections who were waging a relentless struggle against the oppressive government, he said.

The Krishnayapalem farmers, who were jailed and later released on bail, met Lokesh at Undavalli and narrated their harrowing experiences. They thanked him for the TDP's support when the government meted out injustice to them. They said that they did not resort to any unlawful activity but just that they obstructed those coming from outside to enter the capital city area.

Speaking on the occasion, Lokesh said that the fact that this government had no humanity or decorum was exposed when the farmers were handcuffed and sent to jail. Though the complainant withdrew his police complaint, the government shifted the farmers to jail which was highly unpardonable. He alleged that from day one, the YSRCP was implementing anti-farmers policies as was evident from the inordinate delay in the Polavaram project works. Both Amaravati and Polavaram landmark projects were undermined in this rule.

He asserted that the day would come when the ruling party leaders would pay a heavy price for all the atrocities and injustices they were committing against the BC, SC, ST and Muslim minorities.

The Jagan regime had lost its moral right to govern the state going by how it was committing one mistake after another only to cover its continuing failures and incapacities. By running a repressive Police Raj, the ruling party would not be able to silence the voice of the people against its misdeeds, he said.
