Vijayawada: Secretary for Housing, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Ajay Jain said on Sunday the State government would launch housing programme on December 25 for construction 28.30 lakhs houses in two phases to eligible beneficiaries.

The government has issued orders sanctioning Rs 1.80 lakh per unit (each house). He informed that the state government had approved a unique dwelling plan consisting one bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom-cum-toilet and veranda. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wants to ensure adequate decent accommodation providing basic amenities creating best living environment and providing socio-economic improvement in quality of life, said Ajay Jain.

Ajay Jain participated in the webinar conducted by AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) on national energy conservation week on Sunday, with the housing and energy departments. Speaking on the occasion, Jain said that the government has decided to incorporate energy efficient thermally comfortable designs in the houses. With the support of BEE, the Indo-Swiss agency had already approached government to discuss about the project.

Ajay Jain said that the State government had agreed to implement building energy efficiency project in Andhra Pradesh with the support of BEE and Swiss Confederation and with the assistance of APSECM in economically housing programme. Under the programme, innovative Indo-Swiss energy efficient and thermally comfortable (EETC) technology building designs would be incorporated in the houses which is affordable and helps to reduce temperature by not less than 2-4 degrees inside the houses comparing to the outside temperature. It also ensures minimum 20 per cent electricity savings and safe and healthier environment in the houses. It will be a great boon for cost-effective housing for low-income groups.

He said the ECBE-R will ensure adequate natural ventilation, reduced electricity consumption by minimum 20 per cent of electricity bills without comprising comfort, improve thermal comfort (cooling), day lighting and provide safe and healthier environment in buildings.

BEE director Saurab Diddi said that the energy efficient mass housing project would be the unique model to the entire country as it would have a great impact on economic, environmental and social wellbeing and would enhance the quality of life of beneficiaries. Apart from this, beneficiaries would be able to reduce their electricity bills considerably by implementing the above energy efficiency project, he said.
