Ongole: District collector Dr. Pola Bhaskara formally launched the third phase of the YSR Kanti Velugu for the elderly people at the Kothapatnam village secretariat in the district.

The District Collector said that the Chief Minister launched the YSR Kantivelugu scheme after learning that there were about 60 lakh people who were suffering from eye problems He said that there were about 4 lakh elderly people in the district and the scheme will be implemented by taking each assembly constituency as a unit.

He ordered the officials to see those people who require eyeglasses in the first two phases also receive them immediately. He said that the education department is ordered to instruct the students to bring the elderly people in their houses to the schools for the eye tests, so that they would maintain a healthy relation together.

Education Minister Dr Adimulapu Suresh and Markapur MLA Kunduru Nagarjuna Reddy launched the third phase of the YSR Kantivelugu at the Peddaraveedu Primary Health Center as Dr. M Venkateshwara Rao presided over the programme.

The Minister said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has sanctioned Rs 560 crore for the scheme and every elderly person, aged 60 years and above would be screened for eye diseases, conducted surgeries if required and offered medicines free.

He said that Jagan Mohan Reddy is trying to benefit every person in his rule. MPDO Jayaram Naik, Education AJD K Ravindhranath Reddy, MEO Ch P Venkata Reddy, deputy tahsildar Vali Kumar, YSRCP leaders Palireddy Krishna Reddy, Yeluri Venkata Ramanareddy, Daddanala Pullareddy, and others also participated in the program.
