Eluru: Constitution of India is a ray of hope for the poor, downtrodden and weaker sections, said District Collector R Muthyala Raju.

Celebrating the Constitution Day here on Tuesday, the Collector accompanied by Joint Collector M Venugopal Reddy and Joint Collector-II N Tej Bharat paid glowing tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar, the leading architect of the Indian Constitution by garlanding his portrait. Speaking on the occasion, he said while drafting the Constitution, Dr Ambedkar had referred to constitutions of countries worldwide.

This day is historic as on this day in 1949 the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution. We celebrate the occasion, as we possessed power of electing our rulers through ballot dethroning kingdoms. Ambedkar was an intellectual and put in his efforts to make the Constitution unique in protecting the interests of the poor, underprivileged and oppressed.

He kept in mind the social, economic and political status of the poor while framing the Constitution. Everyone should abide by the Constitution to ensure smooth administration, the Collector said. Joint Collector-II Tej Bharat read the Preamble of the Constitution of India in the presence of Collectorate staff gathered on the occasion.
