Vijayawada: Panchayat raj commissioner Girija Sankar said exams will be held under the supervision of district collectors from September 1 to recruit the staff for the village and ward secretariats.

Addressing media at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the commissioner said 21.69 lakh candidates have applied for the posts. Sankar said sufficient number of examination centres have been identified for examinations for the 21,69,719 candidates for 3 categories of posts.

He informed that maximum number of applications 12,54,034 were received for category I (Panchayat Secretary Gr V, Mahila Police, Welfare and Education Asst, Ward Admin Secretary).

This is followed by Digital Assistant (295907), VRO/Village Survey Asst (155168) and Engineering Asst/Ward Amenities Secretary (133811). Out of the 14 tests, 10 tests will be conducted in English and Telugu languages and the other four will be conducted in English only, he added.
