Vizianagaram: The long-pending demand and dream of the people of this district is likely to realised as the government has sanctioned Rs 66 crore funds in the budget for the establishment of a government medical college.
Earlier, it was expected that the MANSAS Trust headed by former Union Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju is likely to set up the medical college. But due to some administrative reasons, the dream does not become a reality and the entire proposal was kept in cold storage.
Now, the State government has sanctioned Rs 66 crore to establish the medical college. With this initiative, the expectations of people have reached high and now, they are believing that the college would come up soon.
There was a demand and proposal to establish the medical college by utilising both Maharaja General Hospital and Government Maternity Hospital here but the previous government didn't take any decision on this issue. As of now, the patients of nephrology, cardiology, burn wounds, plastic surgery, nephrology and neurology are rushing to Vizag for better treatment and even huge number of accident victims also losing their lives due to unavailability of trauma care unit.
If the government medical college is established here, many super specialist doctors would come here and advanced treatment would be made available. Patients from Kurupam and GL Puram need not to travel around 200 kilometres to reach Vizag for treatment. As per the information, the college is likely to be established on the outskirts of Vizianagaram towards Vizag at Chellur village.
