Srikakulam: Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan stressed on pollution-free life of all living things, including humans. He inaugurated fifth AP State Science Congress at BR Ambedkar University (BRAU) campus at Etcherla in the district on Thursday. He also inaugurated children's science congress at engineering college on BRAU campus.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor called upon the people to take up a massive plantation to protect environment and ecological balance. He asked the young scientists and students to get motivated from the challenges which were being faced by our nation and find solutions to them.

Exhorting the people to respect constitutional values and follow fundamental duties without deviation, he said, "Our Constitution is a great document which provides us rights and duties and made number of provisions for uplifting poor and weaker sections."

Stressing the importance of organic farming in preventing environmental degradation, the Governor suggested to the state government to promote nature farming on a large scale. He lauded the efforts of scientists and research scholars and called upon the universities to conduct more science congress event to promote scientific temper among students which is an essential requirement in the wake of present circumstances.

Harichandan lauded the efforts of Indian Red Cross Society members for conducting a number of blood donation camps. On the occasion, he presented awards for lifetime achievers, distinguished scientists, young scientists and fellowships. He visited stalls arranged at the venue with local products like Ponduru Khadi clothes, Mandasa sweets etc.,

Assembly Speaker T Sitaram in his speech said technology and science should transform lives on the ground level bringing changes in various fields like agriculture. Minister for roads and buildings D Krishna Das requested scientists to look into agriculture area for its advancement.

Minister for education A Suresh assured that the government is committed for development of science. He also promised to promote scientific temper among students by revamping the system at government schools. Senior scientists, professors, research scholars from various universities across the country attended. Later, the Governor left for Itchapuram to attend a programmes there.
