Kurnool: BJP state president Somu Veerraju has alleged that Rayalaseema is lagging far behind in development process compared to other regions in the state. Though several eminent personalities have come from this region, he said none of them cared to develop the region on par with other regions. He said that there was utmost need to make a detailed action plan for development of Rayalaseema region, which lost its glory after sacrificing the first capital during bifurcation of state from Madras.

Addressing media conference along with Rajya Sabha member T G Venkatesh here on Sunday, Somu Veerraju said that Rayalaseema region was meted out great injustice in the present ruling and previous governments tenure also. He said the BJP government has already released a declaration for the development of Rayalaseema region and was committed to its promises. He said several educational institutions like DRDO, Airport, IIIT and several others were established in the region particularly in Kurnool district by the BJP government.

Somu Veeraju alleged that huge scam took place in Tungabhadra Pushkaralu. He said a team will visit Mantralayam and inspect the pushkar ghats at Rampuram village, the hometown of YSRCP MLA Y Bala Nagi Reddy. In view of Somu Veerraju visiting Mantralayam, the police made elaborate security arrangements to ensure no untoward incidents take place.

He along with his party leaders were all prepared to take the party activities into the public to gain their confidence. Heavy police force was also mobilised at Ramapuram village in Mantralayam constituency. Even media personnel were not allowed into the village.

Rajya Sabha MP TG Venkatesh said that the farmers of district have given thousands of acres of land for the construction of Srisailam project. Despite the sacrifices of region, the farmers are struggling to get sufficient water for irrigation and drinking water needs, he alleged. He said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao claiming that Srisailam project was for power generation and not for usage of irrigation and drinking water needs.

If Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy did not realise and wake up from the real facts, then the region has to face dire consequences. He demanded setting up of all regional offices in Kurnool.

After addressing media conference, the BJP leader visited Mantralayam where he offered prayers to Raghavendra Swamy. He also inspected Pushkar ghat works constructed during the recent Tungabhadra Pushkaralu near Rampuram village. He criticised the government for poor quality of works being taken up at the ghats and these works were taken up only to benefit local political leaders and contractors.
