Meet on Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation today
The long pending Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (GVMC) proposal has once again come to the fore as the Krishna district authorities started the process.
Vijayawada: The long pending Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (GVMC) proposal has once again come to the fore as the Krishna district authorities started the process.
Now the state the government proposed the merger of villages and as part of it, Krishna District Collector Md Imtiyaz will conduct a meeting with ministers and MLAs at his camp office here on Wednesday.
The District Panchayat Officer (DPO) Dr J Aruna has sent a circular to the respective village panchayats and asked the Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDO) to prepare detailed report about the population, household, drinking water facility, sewage connection, infrastructure, income source, vacant lands and others.
Earlier, some of the villages have opposed the merger move and later they made a resolution against the GVMC. Ten years ago, the then united state government had decided to merge 13 villages in Vijayawada Rural and Penamaluru mandals.
Later the State government had increased the number of villages up to 45. Several villages in the Vijayawada Rural, Penamaluru, Kankipadu, Gannavaram and Ibrahimpatnam mandals have close proximity to Vijayawada city.
Already Mylavaram MLA Vasantha Krishna Prasad had sent a letter to the Collector requesting him to take steps to merge the villages Gollapudi, Rayanapadu, Pydurapadu, Jakkampudi and Kothuru Tadepalli villages into the proposed GVMC. These villages are very near to Vijayawada and the state government is developing housing project at Jakkampudi, he said.
However, the Ibrahimpatnam mandal parishard board meeting passed a resolution to establish new municipality by merging Kondapalli village.
