Nellore: Minister for Industries, IT and Skill Development Mekapati Goutham Reddy visited Atmakur constituency on Saturday to observe the condition of various flood-hit villages. He observed the situation in Veerlagudipadu in Sangam mandal, Kachiradevarayapalle in Ananthasagaram mandal and assured construction of high-level bridges in some areas for connecting the villages.

Minister Goutham Reddy directed the officials to provide food and shelter to victims along with medical facilities. He personally drove a country-made catamaran and visited Veerlagudipadu in Sangam mandal which marooned with floodwater. He asked the officials to check the feasibility of constructing a bridge for the village. He visited the river flow at Apparaopalem in Atmakur mandal. Officials informed the Minister that the district witnessed inflows of 6 lakh cusecs in 2001 and now, 4.50 lakh cusecs after 20 years. The Minister visited the breached tank at Nagulavellatur in Chejarla mandal.

Speaking to media, Goutham Reddy said they would provide land pattas to the people of Apparaopalem in Atmakur mandal on December 25. He also said that they had witnessed huge flooding to river Penna due to cyclone Nivar after 1995. He said measures would be taken to restore the power supply to the Gandipalem reservoir. He said they had discussed on the extension of the north and south canals of Somasila in the Cabinet.
