The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday has heard the petition filed seeking the CBI inquiry on Salam's family suicide case in Nandyal, Kurnool district. Advocate Sravan Kumar, counsel for the petitioner, contended that it was not reasonable to hold an inquiry with the police department as the police were the accused in the case stating that it is contrary to the principles of natural justice.

The court noted that the Salam family selfie video was not mentioned by the police in their FIR. AAG Sudhakar Reddy argued on behalf of the police. The bench, after hearing the arguments of both the parties, directed the Central Government, CBI, State Home Secretary and the State Government to file a counter affidavit and adjourned the hearing for next three weeks.

It is known that Salam's family committed suicide by falling under train at a railway track following the alleged harrasment of the police in connection with a false case as mentioned in the selfie video. The Circle Inspector Soma Sekhar and other constable has been arrested abd later released on bail. Meanwhile, the government of Andhra Pradesh headed by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced the ex-gratia to Salam's mother in law. Also YS Jagan has met Salam's family and consoled them and assured of justice to the family.

On the other hand, the mass suicide has got religious colour after the opposition parties alleged government of attacking on minorities.
