Officials evacuate 3,000 people in flood-hit areas in Guntur district

Guntur: With the increase of floodwater in Krishna river, the Prakasam Barrage is receiving heavy inflow from the Srisailam reservoir, Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala project.

In this context, the district revenue officials have alerted 53 villages in 14 Mandals of Guntur district, where 3,452 people living in the low laying areas were evacuated to nearby schools and relief camps.

Over the continuous floods, the low laying areas in Dachepalli, Bollapalli, Achempeta, Old Amaravati, Tulluru, Tadepalli, Duggirala, Kollipara, Kolluru, Bhattiprolu mandals have submerged under the water.

Crops such as cotton, chilli, red gram, black gram and horticulture crops were also damaged due to floods. According to the officials, if the water levels keep rising at the same pace, it may affect the Buddhist monuments.

Over the directions of district Collector Samuel Anand Kumar, the Revenue divisional officers J Parthasarathy (Gurajala), S Bhaskara Reddy (Guntur) and A Shyam Prasad (Tenali) are monitoring relief works.
