Ongole : The Bharat Bandh, called in support of the agitating farmers in Delhi against the three new agriculture laws brought by the Union government, was a success in Prakasam district on Tuesday. Farmers' organisations, trade unions, Left parties, Congress and Telugu Desam Party participated.

The bandh in the Prakasam district started in the early morning as the members of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, All India Kisan Sangh, All India Agriculture Workers Association and other farmers fronts protested in front of the APSRTC bus depots at Ongole, Chirala, Markapuram, Podili, Giddalur and other places from 04.00 AM. The workers of farmers organisations, trade unions, political parties joined the rally organised by the AIKSCC from the Kurnool Road bypass fly over and raised slogans against the union government throughout the town.

The Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham state general secretary KVV Prasad spoke at the protest conducted at the collectorate, while district secretary Vadde Hanumareddy presided over it. He said that the farmers in the country were demanding the integrated seeds act, implementation of Swaminathan committee recommendations, insurance with the survey numbers as units for years and the government did not care for them but passed the anti-farmers acts for the corporate forces.

He alleged that Modi promised to implement the Swaminathan Committee recommendations before elections and failed to keep his word. He questioned why farmers should believe word of Modi about the minimum support price, when he failed to keep many promises like on black money, depositing Rs 15 lakhs into the accounts of everyone, as the Prime Minister.

The Andhra Pradesh Kaulu Rythu Sangham state leader V Srinivasa Rao demanded the Prime Minister to repeal the three agriculture acts in the meeting with the farmers' leaders on Tuesday. He said that Modi was talking about modern laws and acts but was trying to implement Manusmriti in the country.

He demanded the Prime Minister to make a law assuring MSP to the farmers to prove his modern ideology. The AIKSCC district convener Chunduri Rangarao said that there were many objections to the laws made by the union government and there was no mention of MSP in them. He alleged that the laws were made only for the benefit of corporate companies. The CPI district secretary ML Narayana alleged that the acts were drafted by the executives of the Ambanis and Adanis.

The Congress state vice-president Sripati Prakasam, Kisan Congress state vice-president Vallamreddy Rajagopala Reddy, leaders from CPI-ML, CPI-ML New Democracy and others also spoke in the protest and demanded the repeal of the three agriculture laws.
