Kadapa: The election in Rayachoti Assembly segment a severe drought hit area, falls under Rajam pet Lok seat appears to be litmus test for ruling TDP opposition YCP in the ensuing elections.

TDP has filed Reddappagari Ramesk Kumar Reddy who unsuccessfully contested in 2014 elections, While YSR Congress inducted sitting MLA Gadikota Srikantha Reedy as it's nominee in to the fray.

Muslim Minorities about 70,000 voters are playing key role in deciding the fate of political parties in Rayachoti assembly segment as Congress party represented the constituency for 8 times since 1955, while TDP YSR Congress each two terms in 1999, 2004(TDP), in 2012 by-election, 2014 (YSR Congress).

In 1999, 2004 elections TDP nominee Sugavasi Pala Kondarayudu got elected on his Congress rival M Narayana Reddy (1999) with difference of 8,810 votes, in 2004 elections he won against his Congress rival M. Srilatha Reddy with margin of 3,664 votes.

From 2009 to 2014 YSR Congress won the election on TDP for 3 times. YSR Congress nominee G. Srikanth Reddy defeated his TDP rival S. Palakonda Rayudu two times with difference of14,833(2009), 56,891(2012 by-election). In 2014 G.Srikanth Reddy defeated TDP rival R. Ramesh Kumar Reddy with difference of 34,682. In that election YSR Congress secured 1,96,891, TDP got 1,62,109 votes.

There are 2,25,388 voters against 3,17,385 total population in Rayachoti assembly segment. Apart from Males are 1,11,655, Females 1,13,713.

69.3 percent living in Rural areas, 30.97 percent in towns. The share of SC, ST percentage is 10.23, 2.64 respectively.
