Purnapadu bridge to be completed by June 2020: Minister P Pushpa Srivani
The long-pending dream of the people of remote villages in Komarada mandal of Kurupam constituency, Vizianagaram district is going to be realised after many hardships.
Komarada (Vizianagaram): The long-pending dream of the people of remote villages in Komarada mandal of Kurupam constituency, Vizianagaram district is going to be realised after many hardships.
Komarada mandal is located 100 kilometers away from district headquarters Vizianagaram and it is lying adjacent to Odisha. Geographically most of the villages are in remote and hilly areas and out of 31 grama panchayats, 22 GPs are on north side of river Nagavali and remaining GPs are in south bank of river.
During rainy season, the villagers lost the connectivity with rest of the world due to swelling river Nagavali and the people are forced to spend harrowing time in that season and even, they can't reach the hospital at Parvathipuram too.
The health trams also were not able to reach those villages to start medical camps. People have been demanding to construct a bridge at Purnapadu village to connect the villages with the rest of society. Previous governments have conducted various surveys and proposed to build a bridge at a cost of Rs 10 crore and it was planned to be completed by May 2017.
But the contractor could not complete the task due to various reasons. People of these grama panchayats also lost their hopes on the project and started crossing the river by walk and swiming. Recently, the locals have approached Deputy Chief Minister P Pushpa Srivani and appealed her to complete the half-finished works on the bridge.
As per the request made by the public, she studied the entire project and inspected the place to collect first hand information on the project cost. According to sources, he cost of project is escalated by Rs 4 crores due to delay in works.
She spoke to the concerned officials, ministers and decided to complete the project by June 2020. Srivani assured the villagers that she would sanction additional budget of Rs 4 crores from tribal sub-plan funds for the same.
Pushpa Srivani said, "I have visited the incomplete bridge recently and witnessed how the people are struggling during rainy season. I spoke to the concerned officials and released a GO to sanction additional funds of Rs 4 crore and directed the contractor to complete the bridge by June 2020. It would be very helpful to people of remote villages."
