Rajamahendravaram: South Central Railway (SCR) is arranging electronic interlocking system at town railway station, to avoid late running of trains and to ease rail traffic movement. The work is under progress and will be completed in the first week of January. The SCR officials are supervising the progress of the works. With the new facility, the trains need not wait for hours together and clearance to the trains will be given in minutes to enter on to the platforms.

According to sources, earlier, the train movement was controlled from West and Central cabins and as many as nine assistant station masters used to work round-the-clock in the cabins.

With the new system, the work can be done by only three assistant station masters. At present, 22 trains are passing through the station. After Vijayawada railway station, Rajamahendravaram station is the largest station. Now, only 3,000 passengers are using the station as against of 10,000 to 15,000 passengers daily earlier. After completion of the work, trains will be operated as usual.
