SCR Guntur division sees over 100% rise in freight loading

Guntur: South Central Guntur Railway Division has registered freight loading to the tune of 1.56 million tonnes till November 12, which is 102 per cent increase compared to corresponding period last year. During the same period last year, Guntur railway division freight load was 0.77 million tonnes.The division surpassed the previous year's total freight loading of 1.551 million tonnes.
According to South Central Railway chief public relations officer ChRakesh,Guntur railway division officials focussed on freight loading with the reduction of passenger train services in the current financial year. In addition to this, business development units as envisaged by the railway board to assist the freight customers in easing their hardships and concentrated on attracting new traffic. Food grains loading has been registered as 0.726 million tonnes which is almost 300 percent more than the previous year.During the current year, 5.3lakh tonnes of rice has been loaded additionally over the last year.
Clinker loading to the tune of 0.398million tonnes has beendone by the division which is 203 percent more than last year.
Container traffic to the tune of 0.117million tonnes has been registered by the division which is 66 percent more than the previous year. A new stream of export of dry chillies to Bangladesh has been started from the division. A new Greenfield Private Freight Terminal served by Nagireddypalli station has been commissioned in May2020 with a view to ensuringsupplies of foodgrains.So far,51 rakes of food grains have been loaded from this terminal. Similarly, 12 rakes of maize have been loaded from Nandyal,Naikude and Reddypalem railway stations.
South Central Railway general manager Gajanan Mallya appreciated the efforts of the railway officials of Guntur railway division in enhancing freight loading to the new heights.He advised the officials to continue the same pace till the end of financial year to record the best figures in freight loading.
