Harvested paddy inundated in fields

Srikakulam: Nivar cyclone caused damage to paddy crop in the district. As per preliminary estimates prepared by the agriculture department, paddy crop was damaged to an extent of 1,000 hectares across the district.

After harvesting of the paddy crop, farmers laid it in heaps on the field to dry it. Meanwhile, Nivar cyclone rains damaged the crop.

Due to stagnation of rainwater in the fields for more than one day, the harvested paddy crop got damaged and it is likely to get discoloured.

During current Kharif season, paddy crop has been cultivated in 2.85 lakh hectares across the district. Paddy harvesting and cutting activities started in the district a week ago.
