Srikakulam: In the wake of rains, accompanied by heavy winds, power lines are posing threat to people at several localities in the district.

AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) officials have failed to ensure proper maintenance of powerlines.

The power lines are seen brushing against tree branches at Andhra Bank street in Kasibugga town under Palasa mandal.

Local people are expressing fear that the power lines may fall on the trees, posing danger to them.

But the APEPDCL officials seemed to have turned a blind eye to the problem.

At the Agriculture Research Station at Ragolu village under Srikakulam rural mandal, power lines are passing through bamboo tree branches.

On October 18, a bamboo tree fell on these wires, leading to disruption of power for more than three hours.

In the wake of rains due to low pressure, locals are worried over their safety. "We have lodged a complaint with the APEPDCL officials, but in vain," Y Rama Rao, M RajaRao and others said.

We have deployed teams to axe the branches of trees to ensure safety, Superintendent Engineer of APEPDCL N Ramesh said.
