Eluru: Students of Ch SD St Theresa College for Women took the pledge to stay fit by sticking to any sporting activity here on Thursday, to mark the occasion of National Sports Day and the launch of Fit India Movement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

About 3000 students, 150 teaching, non-teaching staff took part in the programme. They walked on the campus of the college. They vowed to take up any one of activities such as exercise, yoga, walking or any sport to maintain good health.

Principal Dr Marietta D'Mello and controller of examination Sister Sunila Rani guided the students in taking the oath at the college auditorium. Speaking on the occasion, Sister D'Mello said that a healthy body contributes for psychological and spiritual development.

If the students engage themselves in fitness activity, the country will become Fit India. She advised the teaching staff to allot one hour in the evening for walking and doing exercises in the gym. All the programmes were coordinated by physical director Dr Mary Selene Rose.
