Vijayawada: 'The SunPedal Ride' is a 6,000 km ride in 60 days on a retrofitted solar (partially) powered electric rickshaw (tuk-tuk) to spread awareness about sustainable energy, mobility and clean air across India via public interactions, says IIT Bombay alumnus and a Guinness World Record holder Sushil Reddy. The ride kick-started on May 25 at Bengaluru and will conclude on July 24 at Bengaluru.

He arrived in the city on Thursday. Speaking to The Hans India, he said that the 'The SunPedal Ride' awareness initiative is a series of journeys on solar (partially) powered electric vehicles to promote sustainability via public interactions.

In its sixth edition termed as 'The SunPedal Ride - Golden Quadrilateral', a team of four people - Sushil Reddy, Pallavi Siddhanta, Ruthvik Arya and Sudheer Lekkala will be travelling across India along the Golden Quadrilateral Route on a retrofitted electric auto rickshaw using Lithium Batteries manufactured by Volta Automotive India Pvt Ltd (VAIPL) partially powered by a 365 Wp Jakson Solar Panel.

He said this journey across India will make the common man believe that electric mobility is possible today. There is an AVIS support vehicle which will follow the rickshaw as a safety precaution in this journey to promote sustainable mobility. Some of the major cities along the journey are Pune, Surat, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Visakhapatnam, Nellore and Vellore.
